Free Index Directive Checker
Enter up to 5 pages and surface the configuration that keeps pages out of the index: noindex directives, misplaced canonicals, and robots.txt disallows.
What you get
- 01
Five pages at a time
HTTP status, noindex (meta and header), canonical, and robots.txt in one pass.
- 02
Points out contradictions
robots.txt blocking a page that also carries noindex gets called out.
- 03
Declarations, not verdicts
Canonical is a claim and robots governs crawling — the tool never says “indexed”.
Frequently asked questions
Does “checking index directives” mean checking indexing?
No. What you see are declarations: noindex asks not to be indexed, canonical claims a preferred address, robots.txt governs crawling. None of them prove what Google actually has indexed — which is why this tool isn't called an “index checker”.
Why is a robots.txt disallow such a problem?
Because a page that can't be crawled may also have its noindex unseen. The right order is: allow crawling so the noindex takes effect. It's one of the most common self-defeating configurations.
What if canonical points somewhere else?
Canonical tells search engines “index that address instead”. Unless you're deliberately merging duplicates, a stray canonical costs the current page its indexing chance — verify it isn't a mistake.
Are results cached?
Yes — the same set of URLs is cached for 10 minutes to avoid hammering the target site.
